The participation of photovoltaic plants in the transmission network of Bulgaria has increased by 115%

The participation of photovoltaic plants (PV) in the country's transmission network has increased by 115,01 percent for the period January 1, 2024 to May 19, 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. This is shown by the data of the latest operational report on the energy balance in the country of the Electricity System Operator (ESO), published on its page.

From the beginning of the year to May 19, FEC's share in the transmission network was reported in the amount of 739 megawatt hours, while for the analogous period of 248, this share was 2023 megawatt hours. The participation of renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network increased by 343 percent for the indicated period.

The participation of RES in the distribution network also increased - by 27,18 percent in the compared period. The data show that until May 19 of this year, 1 megawatt hours of electricity entered the distribution network from RES energy, while from January 105 to May 746 of the past year, 1, they were 19 megawatt hours. FEC's participation in the distribution network for the compared period increased by 2023 percent.

Electricity production in Bulgaria decreased by 11,41 percent for the period January 1, 2024 - May 19, 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. From the beginning of the year to May 19 this year, 14 megawatt hours were produced, while for the same period last year, the electricity produced was 874 megawatt hours.

From January 1 to May 19, 2024, electricity consumption in the country was 4,51 percent less compared to the same period in 2023. For the reporting period of the current year, 14 megawatt hours were consumed, while in the same period last year consumption was 616 megawatt hours.

The balance (export-import) of electricity fell by 82,61 percent for the compared period, the ESO report also shows. For the days from January 1, 2024 to May 19, 2024, it was 257 megawatt hours, while for this period last year – 964 megawatt hours.

The participation of base plants in the country's energy balance from the beginning of the year to May 19 compared to this period in 2023 also decreased - by 18,99 percent. From January 1 to May 19 this year, 11 megawatt-hours of electricity were produced from base plants, while for the same period in 309, electricity from them was 390 megawatt-hours.

There is an increase of 13,67 percent in the electricity produced by hydroelectric power plants for the period January 1, 2024 - May 19, 2024 compared to January 1, 2023 - May 19, 2023, the ESO report also indicates.
