The American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria and the Confederation of Employers and Industrialists in Bulgaria (CEIBG), in their capacity of representative organizations of Bulgarian, American and multinational business in the country, expresses their serious concern with the unprecedented suspension of gas deliveries to Bulgaria and other neighboring countries. A considerable part of CEIBG and AmCham members suffer huge losses and face long-term challenges, the most obviously affected ones being the industrial companies.
The two organizations insist for prompt reaching a solution of the gas crisis to minimize the losses for the business and to overcome the pending risks of technological failures. We urge the government to provide constant, clear, trustworthy and complete information to the business and to the citizens about the available natural gas resources, the plans for their distribution and the course of the negotiations.
CEIBG and AmCham are in constant contact with their members to sum up their needs and options for reaction. We encourage our members to document their losses.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria and CEIBG have expressed on numerous occasions their position for utmost transparency in contracting natural gas supplies and for diversification of the sources of energy resources. We appeal to the government to take proactive measures in 2009 to provide reliable and effective alternatives in case of eventual future energy crisis.
